We had the intention of going to Wicklow in hopes of hiking around Wicklow National Park. Little did we know, that this park was a 4-hour drive into the mountains from where the train drops you and there are no buses. Nevertheless, we turned it into a fun day exploring this small coastal village!

Cameron and I wandered down through the town and found ourselves on the beach. I searched for treasures along the shore while Cam jumped in for a chilly swim. We continued walking along and up a hill to find some ruins.
These ruins are remnants of the Black Castle. Following the arrival of the Normans, Baron Maurice Fitzgerald was granted the lands on the condition that he build castles for protection. This castle was built around 1174, since then has been attacked and burnt twice by local Celtic clans.
Wicklow is now the capital of the Mid-East region of Ireland and is located south of Dublin on the east coast of the island. We enjoyed our time in this charming mercantile village!
